A review of urban rainwater harvesting in China

Abstract Over the past 30 years, water security issue in Chinese cities has become increasingly serious, largely due to rapid urbanization, population growth and disproportionate investment infrastructure. Urban rainwater harvesting (URWH), a household community-level management measure, been widely used during this period. This study provides critical review of policies, methods, technology, construction, implementation benefits related URWH China. We show that China gone through three phases over years: an initial development phase, phase sponge city construction phase. research focused mainly on harvesting, storage, utilization, other technologies, with limited attention policy benefit analysis. However, scale remains small needs further development. Currently, while assessments cover social, ecological environmental benefits, economic need be strengthened. The next step should strengthen policy, legal design standards. guidance for alike developing countries.
